On the face of it, Mandawa is just a town on the way back to Delhi, so we weren’t really expecting much of the place. It turns out that we had one of the best times of our holiday here, thanks in no great part to Sushil.
The journey from Bikaner was about 200km, so maybe 3 hours. We got settled into out hotel which was the most amazing haveli, and a taste of things to come.
We met our guide and went on a walk of the (very compact) town, stopping off at the palace…
…before visiting many of the painted havelis of the town. Mandawa was on the main trade route between Europe and Asia, so the havelis were places for the merchants to stay.
There were also great memorials.
So what was so great about Mandawa, well it was the evening…after sharing a bottle with Sushil, we gatecrashed a Hindu wedding, courtesy of him and his friend, who was driving a couple from Columbia (they also joined us).
It was amazing to see everyone in traditional Rajasthan dress, and we were made to feel most welcome, and yes, I even joined in the dancing…I just hope there are no videos!
Though Sushil seemed to be using his camera far too much for my liking!
Tomorrow, we head back to Delhi for a night before travelling north into the Punjab!
The catch up blogs are great fab photos but don’t think I could hack the rats All of the buildings are amazing Luv from home
