After visiting the golden city, we headed out about 40km into the desert for what was described as “cultural activities”…
Our accomodation was tented (complete with leaky toilet cistern).
First activity was to get out into the sand dunes of the Thar Desert….and of course, there was only one way to do this…
Our camel handlers dropped us off on a sand dune in the middle of nowhere…then boarding their camels, headed off into the distance….hmmmm…..what do we do now….will they be coming back for us we wondered….wish we had brought some water…clothes….and perhaps a tent…!
It was a barren featureless desert out there…
We needn’t have worried though, as more people joined us on our little corner of desert, we realised the purpose of the trip was to see sunset over the desert…and very beautiful it was…plus right on cue, our camels returned…
After returning to camp, we enjoyed an evening of food and Rajasthan traditional dancing.
A great night all told – we will need to be made of even sterner stuff tomorrow, as we are heading to Bikaner, and the Temple of the Rat…!
Looks fantastic Graeme!
